Bubba is a 1970 Triumph GT6+ that I bought during the period when Sarah was in for her extended body work. The idea was to turn him into an autocrosser, but it took a long time to get there; I needed a daily driver until Sarah was done, and then one thing after another on this seemingly pristine car (less than 70K on the clock) broke.

In summer '93, we undertook a fairly extensive rebuild. The suspension was stripped and refitted with uprated springs and harder bushings. The gearbox and overdrive were rebuilt. There was much frantic last minute work, but we left more or less on time for the VTR National. At the National, the car was wildly successful, taking fastest time of day, trophies for four drivers, as well as a partcipant's choice award.

Modifications continue; now that the suspension is well in hand, I'm doing what I can to increase power output, as well as tightening the nut behind the wheel.

People often write and tell me that they like the looks of the GT6 (who wouldn't?) but wonder if they'll fit.

I'm 6'2" and weight about 200 pounds. I have a 32" inseam, and sit with the seat fully back on the rails and the seat back raked for head clearance. I could barely drive the car with the stock steering wheel - I have to have my knees splayed apart - but putting in a smaller after market wheel made that just fine. (My knees are still splayed apart, but there is now room between my thigh and the steering wheel.) The wheelwell spacing is small, but my size 12s fit OK, with some care (something I can't say, sadly, about a Lotus Esprit).

If you have broad shoulders like a linebacker, you probably won't fit. If you have much longer legs than I do, you almost certainly won't fit.
